We are pleased to announce the workshop “Dual-Use Telecommunication Fiber Optics for Structural Performance Assessment,” which will take place on 14 May 2026 at Politecnico di Milano in hybrid format. The event will bring together researchers and experts in structural engineering, metrology, structural health monitoring, earthquake assessment, and seismic safety to discuss the potential of existing telecommunication fiber optic networks as sensing systems for structural monitoring. Featuring contributions from Politecnico di Milano, INRiM, KU Leuven, and the Applied Technology Council, the workshop will cover topics ranging from laser interferometry and fiber-based strain measurements to operational modal analysis and post-earthquake decision-making, concluding with a panel discussion on open challenges and future directions.
